Thanks That’s great to know. Yes Cliff Richard not known for song writing, personally asked my sister to record the song receiving national publicity and he was over the moon with the result. I joke these days that if Cliff had written a better song she would have had a hit.
Hi Nicola . Sorry for late response. Absolutely stunned to hear from Brian Smiths daughter! So much so I have just accidently erased my reply that took me almost an hour. Your Dad got me the bedsit in the same house in Fulham and although scraping for living we were young and I have some amazing experiences from that R n B era that was the in place to be at that time. It was the breeding ground for future mega rock stars. I have thanks to the Internet aquired Carnival record discs that the WM 5 did sessions backing W Indian as singers. The leatherette waistcoats rang a bell as I think that’s what we wore for gigs, but not sure if our line up was photgraphed. I would love to see that. Maybe we could get in touch by E mail terrywebstars@hotmail.com or phone 01226 728052. Wonderful to hear from you. Best Regards
TerryI came across your site when I was Googling ‘Wes Minster 5 Jimi Hendrix’, unbelievably as I was trying to see if there was any cross over – long story short – my Dad (Brian S) was Wes and I laughed out loud when I saw your comment about him charging for the marker pens – I can only apologise, he literally never changed! My son is a massive Jimi Hendrix fan, hence the Googling, just for a giggle, so it was so lovely to come across your site by complete accident. Ironically, he is also a massive Wes Montgomery fan too and plays my Dad’s very old LPs. I still have some of my Dad’s stuff from the band’s days, including a photo with the band in leatherette waistcoats, which I still have – so if that was when you were in the group and one was yours, feel free to claim back!
Nicola
I came across an old edition of Pick of the Pops from 1962, and your sister’s song – “I want you I need you” was played by Alan Freeman. Maybe you already have this recording?

hello Terry, it was a great pleasure to meet you last night at JDs party. I just wanted to thank you so much for entertaining us. My wife Linda, and I, have not laughed so much in ages! I never got to hear you playing your bass, but that doesn’t matter. You take very good care of yourself and keep rocking. Andy
Kevin .Brilliant! Interesting to hear you remember the song. I had forgotten that I did it on Wheeltappers an experience I didn’t think went too well. I was heavy into songwriting at that time but soon found you have to give an audience songs they know. You have to learn these things.
I have albums under the name ‘Webstars Allstars’ on the Internet crammed with everybody’s favourites and earn modest royalties. But as I have now reached my 80’s one of my last projects will be to do an album of my unreleased material. Many thanks for the inspiration. Stay in touch. All the very best Terry.
Could you tell me if you ever released that track you did on Wheeltappers and shuntersclub called ‘Starsign” If not you should release that on a Ltd edition 7’ single.
Thanks
Trevor.

Hi Alan. I don’t seem to have anything other than private bookings at the moment. Hope something comes along.
